New CV database

January 21, 2007

December capped off a really busy year for fish4.

In December we launched our new CV database where candidates can register their CVs to make it easier for them to apply for jobs and/or allow recruiters to find them.

The new CV database utilises WYSIWYG editors making it easier for candidates to create fancy looking CVs.

We also launched our new streamlined Post A Job service

So far the improvements in conversion look very promising.

Books ordered over the Christmas period

January 21, 2007

I ordered a number of books from www.Amazon.co.uk to read over the Christmas holiday and New Year.

The Concise 48 Laws Of Power
Robert Greene
ISBN 978-1 86197 404-4
The Concise 48 Laws Of Power was a fantastic read. Each Law is only a few pages long but concise and full of great quotes. This book is ideal for reading whenever you have a spare 5 minutes.

The Google Story
David A. Vise
ISBN-10: 0330440055
ISBN-13: 978-0330440059
This is a very light, well written, relaxing read that simply covers the Google story to date albeit it doesn’t reveal anything radically new that you couldn’t probably piece together by searching the internet.

Temporal Data and the Relational Model
C.J.Date, Hugh Darwen, Nikos A.Lorentzos
ISBN-10: 1558608559
ISBN-13: 978-1558608559
This looks like a heavy read. The use of time in databases has always bugged me from my days as a developer many years ago. Not sure at the moment when I will get around to reading this one.

Tricks of the Mind
Derren Brown
ISBN-10: 1905026269
ISBN-13: 978-1905026265
I have started reading. Very good so far.

Brilliant NLP: What the Most Successful People Know, Say and Do
Pat Hutchinson, David Molden
ISBN-10: 0273707892
ISBN-13: 978-0273707899

The Long Tail: How Endless Choice Is Creating Unlimited Demand
Chris Anderson
ISBN-10: 184413850X
ISBN-13: 978-1844138500

Google’s PageRank and Beyond: The Science of Search Engine
Amy N. Langville, Carl D. Meyer
ISBN-10: 0691122024
ISBN-13: 978-0691122021
